  • Tornado in Galesburg

Posted on August 25th, 2007 admin No comments

On Thursday a tornado ripped through my town and other towns near by at around 1:15 pm. We had no warning. I heard some noise and it took a minute to realize it was rain. I looked out the window and it was crazy. The rain was falling so fast you couldn’t see anything else but the rain. The wind started blowing hard.

I ran to the back door and looked out that window. The car windows were down and I ran out to close them. As I go down the stairs I see the wind going in circles. I turn around. I decided to run to the car anyways and put up the windows just in case it was still there when this storm left. I ran back in because there were all kinds of crap blowing through the air. I get the family and put them in the basement.

It took maybe 15 minutes for the tornado to pass by but it seemed like alot longer. I go outside and check out the aftermath.

To see pictures of the town go to http://www.rankrover.com/aftermath and click a picture. Hit your browser back button to get back to the directory after you are done looking.

We had no power until late last night. I didn’t have internet until this afternoon. It was crazy.

  • Wealth is easier than you think. So why be poor?

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

We are raised to think that if we were not born rich, then getting rich is alot of hard work. the reality is that is false. Think about what you were taught first. When you go to school you are taught that you have to study hard, go to college, get a degree and get a job. Your parents tell you to save your money, invest it in a long term 401k or another “safe” investment.

    THE TRUTH:

The truth is that the key to success is completely the opposite. If you go through the process of schooling and saving money you just might have enough to pay bills when you are old and retired. Or for the unlucky you will probably lose your pension because of companies like Enron. You could lose everything after years of loyalty working for a company!

So what are you supposed to do? Well, first you have to change your mindset. Start thinking like you are already rich. “Experts” like financial advisors will give you the wrong information. Chances are those experts are broke themselves, or they are middle class. You will probably see them stuck in traffic trying to get to their dead end job just like you are. So stop listening to anyone that is broke themselves. Listening to them will get you nowhere.

Look into actually starting your own company. Think about investing in real estate. Then when you decided to do so go and learn about it before you jump in. I have seen too many times when somebody bought a Carlton Sheets program or Robert G. allen mentoring then they complain and shout SCAM when they don’t make any money. the real problem is that they usually think there is a magic get rich button. They think if they spend their $5,000 savings on a no money down mentoring program they will instantly get rich. It is rediculous how many people do that and then claim that the person selling the information is a scammer. When in actuality it is the person spending the money who failed to get off their lazy ass and make something happen!

You will see many people say “Don’t invest in real estate”. They will say that the bubble has burst. That again is false. You can ALWAYS make money in real estate. I don’t care how the economy is. If you buy it right you can make money. For example, if you spend $50,000 from your savings account on a property and the property value decreases then you will lose your money. BUT, if you spend $1,000 down and get the seller to finance the rest while tenants pay off the mortgage and taxes then once you get the $1,000 back the profit is infinate. Even if the property value decreases you still are not losing any money. This is because you didn’t even spend your own money in the first place! You can make your $1,000 back in the first two months.

So before you wake up and go to work tomorrow think about a change of pace. Do your research and prepare yourself for a better tomorrow.

  • Corporate events can equal happy clients

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

What do you do when you are in a dying industry? Let’s say that when you were young the industry was a hot market but not in this new generation. Technology has taken over and switched course.

A corporation must somehow reassure their client base that the industry is able to change direction and keep a wide eyed audience. Let’s now say that this industry is DRTV. Television commercials are slowly being tucked away. Soon they will not exist at all. What happens to the ad agencies and media firms in this situation? They must change their entire business model.

To change with the times you have to seek out what the consumer finds alluring. It is pretty simple. You are a consumer even if you are the CEO of a large firm. Right? Now let’s assume that the the new generations media preference in anything ONLINE. The internet my friends is the biggest thing for advertisement these days. That is why Yahoo! is able to charge $30,000 for 1 day of advertising on their homepage.

Every day the DRTV industry waits, the more they are losing out on an expanding audience. Every single day millions of people get online for the first time. An overwhelming percentage of those people are teenagers.

I seem to be getting ahead of myself… Back to the issue of keeping a happy client.

The best way to introduce your DRTV client to the new media generation is to hold a corporate event. Bring the technology to the client n an environment that the new generation would most likely visit on a regular basis. Use a large hall and setup arcade games, video games, computer stations, vending machines, music, flat screen tv’s, and all the things the new generation is attracted to. the entire point of doing so is to make your client understand who they are targeting. It’s the noise, the movement, the lighting, the atmosphere that makes the place off the charts as far as teenagers and young adults are concerned.

Use the entire event to show how tv commercials can be thrown in front of the eyes of the young consumer by flashing commercials before a avideo game starts, an audio ad before they listing to the music and after every 4 songs, tv commercials played on the flat screen in this wonderful atmosphere. DRTV is NOT dead. It is just the way that it is being presented. In order for the DRTV industry to survive, it needs to live in an atmosphere that will make it thrive. Kids are NOT at home watching tv commercials. They are at popular hangouts.

Distributing the media can be as simple as expanding the publisher market. Make the offering to local hot spots to incorporate the commercials into their media. Force the commercial into the face of the young consumer and keep up with the changing ways.

  • SEO Secrets

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

With over 12 years of experience in search engine optimization and marketing I have picked up many things over the years. Some of these things that I say will probably get alot of criticism from my peers but who the hell cares?

A couple years back I started a thread in WebProWorld called “SEO is a joke”. It was about how Google puts more emphesis on onsite search engine optimization than they do inbound links. I got a TON of grief from the “professionals”. Guess what? Not too long after, Google came out with the Jagger Update. It was the update that filtered out inbound links even more. Businesses that have been on the top of search results for years suddenly vanished into the deep depths of the ocean called the Google search results. I laughed!

For a couple years now I have put the Top 10 Ranking GUARANTEE on all of my clients’ accounts and I shout my abilities no matter where I go. I claim to know the new factors in an algorithm before Google even knows it. How can I do this? Algorithms are based on common sense. Common sense tells us that if we can think of a way to get around the filtering then Google will come up with a roadblock. Now for some reason I am able to think of every possible shortcut to get on top of Google using white hat seo. Google has yet to actually catch up with me. They pay their development team to come up with factors for their algo when all they actually need is me on their payroll.

Am I full of it? NO. Definately not. I have actually wrote an algorithm of my own that I claim to be able to show more relevant results than Google WITHOUT using ANY outside factors. I can filter out ANY site using spam methods. I can filter out ANY site that is not relevant. Then I can determine who is most relevant out of the surviving index. The only way to get on top of my results is to have RELEVANT information on your website.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

  • Over-hype branding

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

Let me get you up to date on what I like to call “over-hype branding”. It is basically the act of publicising something so much that suddenly that something becomes worth millions more than it would be worth normally. For example, the Apple iPhone which was selling for $600+. Call me smart but what is the big deal about the stupid phone. Sure, it has a motion sensor. OH MY GOD! Gotta have that! LOL. I like my Blackberry Pearl just fine. I got it free with a T-Mobile plan that I saw advertised on Yahoo! homepage. I got my fiance an older Blackberry on a barter deal also and she is fine with it. We don’t need a video game system embedded in a phone. Useless is what I like to call the iPhone.

People went crazy. They were standing in line for days camping out just to get one. Then they couldn’t even get service! It is just a phone. Without the hype it is nothing more than a circuit board and display screen. Get serious. That $600 could have paid someone’s rent.

    Over-hype.

Now, the question on the minds of marketing execs everywhere is how to go about getting that type of hype. It was so played out that stock shares go up in companies when people take apart the iPhone and discover who helped manufacture parts.

Taking it to a new level would be to ask “how do we over-hype DRTV in such a way?” How does a DRTV company gain that type of popularity? If you look at it, the purchasers of such over hyped items are the younger crowd.

My thought brought me to the idea of getting the younger generation involved in the DRTV biz somehow. Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing you can have. Pair that with the overpowering need for status and popularity from your peers and you have loyalty for the brand. It is like gang loyalty. You don’t question why the item is a big thing and you have to have it. Just like you don’t question why you are loyal to a gang. It doesn’t even cross your mind.

So how do we get the younger generation involved in DRTV? Celebrity status of course! What kid or teen does not keep an eye on celebrity updates and have a need to be that popular? So you simply offer the kids a chance at becoming one of those celebrities. A highly successful DRTV company should have some major connections. They can create some incentive package with a sponsor or advertiser in exchange for getting the chosen kid a main part in a hit show or a recording contract, etc…

Now where the kid comes in. Each kid/teen will be passing the word of mouth to everyone they know. News spreads like wildfire. The news they are spreading is “watch this show and this show between these hours. Look for a message in order to get your chance at becoming the next celebrity”. There you have a HUGE younger following watching television. Now you have a reason to go to your advertisers who target the younger generation and say “Hey, we have millions of kids watching. How much do you wanna pay for advertising?”

Now by this time, you have millions of kids watching shows that are great. Shows on prime time that people love, but still not as many viewers as they want because kids normally would rather be out with friends or on the internet. By doing it this way you will have a good amount of new loyal viewers for that great show that they never knew about or never cared about knowing about.

You have just created a boost in the DRTV industry and all it took was a little thought.

  • Search Engine Optimization

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

Search engine optimization gets alot of bad press because small business owners who hire SEO companies sometimes find a bad one. They get charged and never see any top 10 rankings. When I provide SEO services I always guarantee top 10 natural rankings and always deliver. It is about keeping your word and establishing a reputation.

Aside from the obvious cons, let’s break down the pros for ontaining a search engine optimization expert…

An expert seo should be able to make necessary changes to your website such as the meta tags matching your page content 100%, anchor text flowing throughout your website, creating a sitemap that will allow spiders to reach every page from one page, and more.

Another important feature in an SEO campaign is link building. Whether it is reciprocal linking or one way linking you will need someone who can get relevant links using a good variation of anchor text codes.

Not all SEO experts can make programming changes but some can. One of those changes would be using mod-rewrite to create search engine friendly URL’s on dynamic websites. Getting rid of the random letters and numbers and replacing it with keywords is a great way of getting a ranking boost.

Use these tips when seeking SEO and learn all you can in the process. The internet is a great way to market your business.

  • Black hat google adsense marketing

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

Throughout the years, google adsense has been closing loopholes for publishers who are in it to make a profit. Some of the loopholes were downright ugly and evil.

    For example:

Google Adsense does not allow software developers to embed adsense code in their software. The reasons for this should be completely obvious. Some users of the software may click the ads in the program to support the developer. Aside from that, most software programs are limited in screen space. To allow a developer to embed code would be asking for trouble. They would have to place it in spots close to program functions or the content contained within the program. On top of that, how can google truly provide relevant ads contained in a software program. Google bases their relevance on the title tags, and page content on a website. However, I am sure there is a way for them to index content contained in an internet accessible software program.

There are programs like Google Clique which that famous developer tried to use to “negotiate” money out of Google. The program was an ad clicker. How it works is it threw random hits at a website using an IP tunneling method. It made Google believe each hit came from a unique IP address. Pair that with it’s ability to show unique hits and a good mix of clicks to make google believe that it was in fact real traffic and not a clicker. Most clickers would just click away and make Google suspicious. This one gave a good ratio which looks like valid traffic compared to clicks on the ads. Google ended up dropping charges against the developer because they would have been forced to release “secrets” to the public that would give SEO experts everywhere something to talk about. I personally know Google’s algo anyways so it doesn’t matter to me.

They have a thing against placing code near important parts of the website because when a visitor may want to click HOME they may accidently click on an ad instead. So they have rules explaining how far an ad must be away from the content and navigation on a website. (Yes, we follow these rules 100%).

After go9500i started giving to The Red Cross, we aparently created an uproar at the google adsense blog where advertisers started asking if that was ok. They believed that people would try to “support” the red cross cause by clicking out ads. (That didn’t happen”). Because of the nature of that mission some people actually avoided our ads like the plague!

The point to this post is to follow Google rules.

  • Revenue or loss of quality

Posted on August 17th, 2007 admin No comments

A couple years back a partner of mine and I started a website that became really big. We provided a service for indie musicians to sell their music online. They got a unique URL and they got access to a bunch of tools to track hits.
The thing about that website was that we believed in quality over revenue. The website got a TON of hits and regular traffic. Bands promoted the website all over the place. Not just online. We even got the website published in print books for musicians resources.
I thought of the idea to post Google Adsense but I opted for a clean website instead. The question remains, is there some websites out there that you just do not think it is wise to sacrifice the quality in exchange for a bit of revenue? Who has a website like that and where can I check it out?

  • Lack of ethics in marketing

Posted on August 5th, 2007 admin No comments

There are many successful companies that have played by the rules for years. Using word of mouth and great customer service to establish momentum in their marketing efforts. But there are some companies out there that claim to be providing a service for consumers by publishing the truth. These such companies for example are ripoffreport.com and screwedcentral.com.

Companies like those are up for a simple purpose. That purpose is NOT to provide consumer protection, but to use other companies BRAND’s in order to gain profits. ScrewedCentral for example uses Google Adsense and has a “donation page” for their “legal fund”. If you visit Ripoffreport.com you will notice that they also ask for donations for their legal bills and they have ads displayed which are no doubt paying for the ad space. On top of it they have the “advocacy” program which asks companies who have a negative report for a couple thousand dollars in exchange for help in getting reports “turned around”.

What happens is that these websites rank on the top of Google and Yahoo for a company’s name. So when someone is searching for that company they end up on the report website. “Hopefully” these visitors click on the ads when they visit and the report site makes money. It is an old marketing trick. Problem is that these websites are using trademarked names to promote their website. Eventually you would end up upsetting the wrong company who ends up suing your report company for everything it’s worth. Then the site begs for donations to fight in court.

A major problem with the above is that these report sites do not really allow anyone to promote the good. Only the bad. So if a consumer that has done business with a company notices a negative item they cannot write their own good item to be included in the website. The people that own these websites are clearly in it for one thing. Money!
