Optimize for top 10 natural rankings

Have you had a chance to network? There are lots of outlets I use. For real estate I use the forum at www.equitybegone.com, for hooking up with investors or business partners I use www.madisonwhoswho.com, etc. I never use one avenue for my business marketing.
Madison who’s who is an online community that allows professionals to network with each other. They have a huge database. For a real estate investor it is vital to find financial partners that would benefit from a tax shelter. Some would be doctors or lawyers.
You might want to get new business. You never know who you meet that would need the service you provide. Clients come in weird ways sometimes.

If you have ever been a webmaster you know who DMOZ is. The so called “open directory” has been based off of volunteer editors since it’s birth. The concept is great but unfortunatly this is one concept that is not reality.
DMOZ editors are people like you and me all across the world. They volunteer in a certain category and wait for approval or denial. Sometimes they never get either.
The rules state that it is not to be used for the editors personal gain. The gain would obviously be that if you can get listed in DMOZ you have an instant BOOST in rankings and PR in Google as well as higher rankings in other search engines. Google actually downloads DMOZ database data and ads it into their index. The benefits are clear.
The problem is that because it is made up of volunteers, there is no order. There is nobody to regulate the rules and editors break them daily. If a party planner category editor has a party planner business or they know someone who does then they will include that website in the index and give it the best possible title and description. If a competitor submits to that category then good luck every seeing that listing appear.
Another problem is that editors are too lazy to add more than the monthly minimum. So in order to get them off of their asses you have to bribe them into listing your website. You simply paypal them money then submit your website using the same paypal email so they know who sent the money. The amount depends on the category as well as other factors. And if you do get added then suddenly receive link requests from a “similar” website, it stands to say that it wasn’t a coincidence. You better add that link on your website because it is an editor requesting it. You just might disappear from the DMOZ directory if you do not.
As the owner of RankRover since 2002 I have submitted the website to the search engine optimization firms category under the letter R. I am still not included in the directory. Am I not an SEO firm with the beginning letter R? Is my website not relevant? Well, aparently my competition is an editor in the seo category.
On top of all that, there is a forum just for DMOZ editors. In this forum, the editors make fun of webmaster submissions they never intend to index. Check out Corruptdmozeditor.com for more information on this problem.
The corruption at DMOZ is an ongoing thing and will NEVER change until Netscape (the company that owns DMOZ) decides to have actual Netscape employees police the directory. If you are a pissed off webmaster or simply hate corruption then contact Netscape and tell them what you think about their free directory.

I have covered this topic before in another article I wrote about 2 years ago. I wrote about the corruption that brews at DMOZ. The human edited directory is supposed to be indexing relevant websites based on the category the editor has rights to. They locate websites and place them in that category.
What happens if the category editor also has a business related to that category? What if they don’t but they have a friend that does? Well, there are alot of them that simply add the minimum required amount of websites for each month. All the while making sure their website is indexed and optimized for their keywords.
These types of editors refuse to add a website that belongs to a competitor. For example, RankRover has been submitted to the SEO Firms category under the letter R. It has been there for years waiting to be included but has yet to be. The owner of that category refuses to add us? Are we not an SEO Firm that starts with the letter R?
These types of editors are also in it for capital gain. They can covertly charge a fee to include a website in the category. Even with these setbacks, RankRover does a good amount of business in the seo field. DMOZ might be good to get into if you can without paying but it is not necessary to run a successful online business.
